The Casino Hotel marked the beginning of our journey. In many ways, it served as a testing ground for our ideas and a place where we could learn from our mistakes. Ultimately, it became the hub where we refined our processes to their highest standards.

Our guests often remark on the results of this dedication. Indeed, many of the exceptional experiences and services offered by the Casino Group had their genesis at the Casino Hotel.

Arrival and Orientation

For those visiting Kerala for the first time, the Casino Hotel is the ideal starting point. It serves as a graceful transition between two distinct worlds. On one side, you have the cosmopolitan allure of Cochin, with its restaurants, shopping, and entertainment. On the other, you can immerse yourself in the unique culture, customs, and cuisine of Kerala.

To Willingdon Island

The Casino hotel is situated on Willingdon Island, a man-made legacy from the colonial era that contributes to Cochin's status as one of the world's premier harbors. As you approach the hotel, you'll pass the vast dockyards of this historic port, towering coconut trees, and stretches of the shimmering Arabian Sea.

The Casino Hotel welcomes you with a traditional 'varvelpu,' or greeting. The garland, the aarti ceremony, and the offer of coconut water are gestures you'll become acquainted with as you explore our state.

After your introduction, you'll be escorted to your room. Simplicity and elegance define the decor, as is the case in all our properties. The parquet floors in the rooms add a distinctive touch, and you can indulge in a relaxing bubble bath using shampoo from the charming clay pots in your spacious bathroom. Once you're rested and rejuvenated, it's time to venture into Cochin.

Blend of Modernity and Tradition

For those who've never experienced an Indian city before, Cochin can be a sensory overload at first sight. It's one of India's most cosmopolitan cities, seamlessly intertwining tradition with modernity.

The bustling Ernakulam represents the newer, commercial part of the twin cities. Enjoy your last taste of Chocolate Chip ice cream for a while (Keralan desserts will ensure you don't miss it too much). Explore the malls and stores if you wish to update your wardrobe or acquire personal items. Here, you'll find an array of leading global brands and, if you're feeling adventurous, a multitude of colorful options in sarees and 'mundus' (the traditional attire for Keralan men).

However, if Ernakulam is the heart, the soul of Cochin resides in its older quarters. Here, eight centuries of history unfold, showcasing a mosaic of cultures. Within a few kilometers, you can encounter a Dutch Harbor house, India's oldest Jewish synagogue, the Catholic St. Francis Church, Portuguese navigator Vasco Da Gama's tomb, the Hindu Raja of Cochin's Mattancherry Palace, the British Raj-era Cochin Club, and the towering Chinese fishing nets along the harbor!

It's no wonder that the city attracts art experts and collectors from renowned auction houses like Christie's and Sotheby's. Cochin is brimming with colonial antiques, making it a mecca for enthusiasts.

Familiar Comforts

Exploring the city can be exhilarating but also tiring, especially if you're not accustomed to Kerala's climate, which ranges from breezy warmth to torrential rain and scorching sunshine. The Cascade pool provides the perfect place for rejuvenation. Swimsuits are available in the gift shop, which is worth a visit even if you're not planning a dip. You'll discover exquisite examples of traditional Keralan crafts, exotic fabrics, garments, books, handbags, and an assortment of fascinating trinkets.

Another delightful way to unwind is with an Ayurvedic massage. Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of medicine, is a speciality at the Casino Hotel. It boasts resident experts and fully equipped facilities.

In this part of the world, dusk descends swiftly. If you're in the mood for a cocktail, the Vasco da Gama lounge is the hotel's popular watering hole. Here, you can savor exotic cocktails (such as the Cochin Thunder, Pink Ladies, and innovative beverages based on local ingredients) or, in a novel twist, sample health drinks inspired by Ayurvedic principles.

If you need a space for discussions, the Durbar Hall can accommodate up to 350 people with grace. For more intimate gatherings, consider the Harbour Lounge Banqueting Suite, which seats 40.

Kerala on a Platter

The restaurants at the Casino Hotel have earned a reputation as institutions among Cochin's food aficionados. If you desire a blend of the exotic and the familiar, 'Tharavadu' is the place to start. It offers an extensive buffet for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Your first breakfast in Kerala could feature scrambled eggs, while lunch might include roast chicken and a shrimp salad, and dinner could involve a fiery squid curry and appams (fluffy rounds of fermented rice and pulses, the traditional accompaniment to Kerala meals). The range of Indian and Continental cuisine is extensive. By the way, 'Tharavadu' means traditional cottage (the 'u' is almost silent, but don't worry too much—only a native Keralite can master Malayalam pronunciation).

The pride and joy of the Casino Hotel is the specialty seafood restaurant, Fort Cochin, which is perpetually popular but only open in the evenings. Fort Cochin has been hailed by Good Housekeeping as "one of the most renowned seafood restaurants in India." Dining here is like embarking on a culinary journey through the flavors and textures of Kerala's diverse cuisine.
